There is an easy trail that goes all the way around the reservoir offering stunning views over the water and the rolling green hills above. There are also a number of nice country pubs if you fancy a pint, including the Wisewood Inn, Admiral Rodney and Nags Head. Situated on the western edge of the city and sloping into the Peak District, this picturesque valley has a number of scenic walks to take. There is a well-known myth that the bears were removed after one of them snatched a baby, which was being held up by a nanny for them to look at the animals. There are also the remains of an old bear den that appears to have housed live bears during the Victorian era, with an 8ft tall steel statue of an American black bear named Robert the Bear. One of the most notable features of the gardens are the Grade I listed glass pavilions, which were restored and reopened in 2003. The gardens were designed by Robert Marnock and first opened in 1836. The beautiful park is just off Ecclesall Road and has 5000 plant species spread over 19 hectares of land. There are many places in Sheffield that you can go to to clear your head. You can also check out the large weeping birch near the main entrance, which Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker singled out as his favorite tree and nicknamed it “the bowl cut” because “it looks like bad hair.” There are a wealth of walking trails through the park and a number of interesting sights, such as the memorial to the Mi Amigo disaster, which killed ten US airmen when their bomber crashed into the park in February 1944. The park was opened in 1887 to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Jubilee and near the entrance is a huge statue of the former monarch.
